La Terraza

La Terraza – Casino de Madrid (Alcalá 15, Sol, Madrid) – upon entering this restaurant (which is actually a rooftop terrace), patrons could be forgiven for thinking they have entered a museum (given the prime location within Madrid, and its elegant interior décor). This is one of Madrid’s well-regarded restaurants (managed by star chef Ferran Adria), known for its “tapiplatos” (such as fried fish and mojito, white asparagus, baby cuttlefish and rabbit jus; salt cod with garlic cream, and other delicacies), as well as dishes like monkfish (with a celeriac puree, chick pea consommé and ciroander air), loin of beef with tomato salad and watercress, and veal shank with vegetable papillote. Note: despite the restaurant’s name, this is not a gambling establishment — “casino” is a gentlemen’s club, a nod to the restaurant’s high-brow past (it was originally opened in 1836).
