Barcelona
Barcelona – with a population of 1.6 million residents, Barcelona is the second-largest city in Spain, and is the capital of the autonomous province of Catalonia. Its earliest origins trace back to an Ancient Greek settlement, as well as the presence of Carthagians around 218 BC, and a Roman colony afterwards.
With its history, and Catalonia’s integration into the Kingdom of Spain during the medieval period, Barcelona has become a cultural city, which can be seen in the historic-artistic heritage and the promotion of the most innovative artistic trends. A wide cultural program will take visitors to museums, exhibitions, open-air sculptures… and many concerts, plays and dances. The region’s gastronomic treasures are another reason for visitors to familiarize themselves with Barcelona. Its innovative culinary offerings, based on fresh garden produce, fresh fish, a wide variety of sausages and olive oil, along with traditional handmade cakes, pastries and sparkling wines, are some of the delights that tourists will encounter here.
Foreigners going through Barcelona (for business and/or pleasure) will warm up to the city’s Mediterranean character, which can be seen so clearly on its coastline. The city also has scenic urban beaches, marine resorts, and seaside golf courses. Nature lovers will be struck by the beauty of the nearby mountains in the Cordillera Litoral range and the Catalan Pyrenees.
